HAD to post this....Attention Dirk:

So I've been traveling like crazy...but for all you Husker fans talking about HOW great your win over Oregon was.....they just lost to OAKLAND.
It was the first win over a Top 25 team in school history for Oakland (5-6), the small school from Michigan. The Ducks (8-3) had a 20-0 run in the second half, but still couldn't avoid their second-straight loss.
Sound familiar? But Oakland was 4-6 going into that game!!! Someone send that to Dirk at the OWH. I told you it was too early to talk about how great that win over Oregon was and about resume's for March. LOOOONG way to go. RealtimeRPI.com at 2 pm central: Creighton 32. Nebraska 103. and scoreboard. What to watch for now: Oregon vs. St. Joe's. Who's year will be better....should be interesting.

Dirk was right. The big 12 is going to be a 5 or 6 bid league. The valley is going to be a 1 or 2 bid league this year. Nebraska is more likely to finish in the top 6 of the Big 12 than Creighton is to finish in the top 2 of the mvc.

You have some serious insecurity issues. Even with the loss to Oakland, St. Joe's is going to be nowhere near the team Oregon is. Michigan State also lost to Grand Valley State in an exhibition game, do you think St. Joes at 4-4 are as good as them? If you haven't noticed, upsets do happen in college basketball.

Matt, you live and die by Husker basketball. Admit it. Creighton is just an afterthought to you.

SpinSports590 said...

It really must hurt you to see Nebraska have any success in basketball. Dirk will be right in the end, finishing in the top 5 in the Big 12 will be a ticket to the dance, and finishing in the top 2 in the MVC will be as well.

Nebraska has played 4 teams with 300+ RPI's; Creighton has played none. (And Nebraska's next two games are against teams with RPI's of 338 and 327).

Creighton has 5 wins agaist teams with RPI's better than 150; Nebraska has only 2 such wins.

Creighton's only loss was to a team with an RPI of 16. Nebraska has lost to teams with RPI's of 29 (Creighton) and 127.

CU's RPI: 29
NU's RPI: 104

And the final stat: CU 74, NU 62.

What's houston Baptist's rpi cujay NR that must be better than 300...

CubsNSkers05 said...

The team that beat Oregon is also the exact same team that almost beat Michigan st on the road. 75-71 they lost. Oakland isn't one of those teams that are a 300 rpi but they aren't that good either. The difference Tajuan Porter 29 to keep Oregon in the game vs us, otherwise its a blowout compared to 1-8 shooting and 3 points against Oakland. It's called an off night perrault, but why don't you get your bluejays to play some defense.

SpinSports590 said...

The thing you forget CUjay is that NU's rpi will go up during the conference season and Creighton's will go down. Creighton will wish they played a tougher non-conference schedule when it comes down in the end. Creighton will end up with no wins vs ranked opponents on the season.

mpluvcreighton said...

It must've been painful for you to see that Nebraska allowed just 28 points in an entire game to a team that Creighton allowed 30 to......in the first half.....great job guys!

Matt Perrault said...

So we are QUALIFYING wins now?? Wow.

Hey you won but you didn't win by enough?

Did you watch CU vs. NCC? I told you that NU would win by more...the Jays were playing with them....putting things on film to work on. It was exhibition game. And, NCC is currently 282 for RPI.

The Big 12 will help NU's RPI but not if you don't win games...RPI doesn't matter unless you win.

beav said...

Matt, you're evading the fact that Creighton has issues on the defense. Nebraska, on the other hand, is using their athletism and speed to totally frustrate their opponents.

BTW, the Huskers played all of their players for the NCC game. All players played at least 4 minutes. No body played more than 24 minutes. So it is evident that Doc was tinkering with his lineups.

knew matt would take time off his lovely holiday break to post about Nebraska Basketball, check that, to post about Nebraska Basketball opponents.

celticpride said...

Matt, NU played Shang Ping and Chris Balham together for quite awhile. That will likely never happen again. Don't give us that crap about experimenting with lineups. We've heard it all from you. I don't care who Creighton has, they gave up 30 in a half to a team that couldn't score 30 on NU in a game. Shows how much NU has improved since the Qwest center 1st half vs. CU. Admit it.

Let’s be honest with ourselves Husker fans. Last year, when we beat Creighton, we all knew that we got a little hot from behind the arc. I think most of us realized that Creighton was, in fact, a better team than Nebraska. We knew we weren’t going to make the Tourney, we knew that Creighton would beat us 7 times out of 10. Sure, we all bragged about the win. It’s nice to have scoreboard. Scoreboard is nice and all, but it doesn’t mean you’re a better basketball team. Creighton was a better basketball team than us last year.

Creighton fans, however, must also be honest with themselves. Flip the scripts from last year, Creighton got scary hot from behind the arc and buried us in the first half. We owned the 2nd half, but it was too late. On top of Creighton’s unreal shooting, we had severe team chemistry problems at the time and Maric wasn’t exactly 100%....although he should have played much better than he did, but give a lot of the credit to Creighton defensively. We all knew that this Husker team would have to gel as the season went along. Hell, guys are still getting used to each other and it’s very evident, but we are improving each game. Nebraska would beat Creighton 7 out of 10 games right now. Just because a team gets hot from behind the arc, doesn’t mean they are a better overall team (example: Nebraska last year).

And Matt, you are a lot smarter than people, including me, give you credit for sometimes. You know Nebraska is the better team right now, you knew they were going to destroy North Carolina Central far worse than Creighton did. So you made the excuse before hand, to soften the blow. Smart, really. While realizing Nebraska is the superior team right now, it was very smart to put that excuse out there. However, the excuse doesn’t exactly hold water as Nebraska experimented just as much, if not more than Creighton. By looking at the box scores, Doc Sadler played his walk-ons far more than Dana Altman did.

Another Matt Perrault Creighton excuse debunked.

mpluvcreighton said...

Matt,

As has been previously stated, the walk-ons played quite a few minutes at the end and continued the beat down. You have yet to address the fact that Nebraska allowed fewer points in the entire game than Creighton did in the first half. Also, let us not forget, that six of nine made FG's by NCC against Nebraska were three-pointers, often NBA range at the end of the shot clock. At this point in time, Nebraska IS the MUCH better team than Creighton, but that all could change. And Matt, please be honest with us, you know Creighton would stand no chance in the Big 12. 2 or 3 wins MAX.

beav said...

Well said sublime. I will disagree with mpluv in that I think Creighton would probably get somewhere between 3-7 wins in the big 12. They are better than teams like Colorado and maybe Iowa St. However, I think Nebraska will get somewhere between 7-9 wins in the big 12. So that brings up the following question. What is the main difference between the Huskers and the Jays? In my opinion, what makes Nebraska a better basketball team is their much greater athletism and ability to play defense. All the coaching in the world cannot make players run faster or jump higher.

Matt: Again Thanks for all the NU publicity. It's one way to get people to read the blog. So does Dirk post a blog segment everytime your comments don't go right? Also where was my Husker 50 point win Sat.? Told you before to just give us the facts and to guit messing with numbers. The Husker defensive performance would have been more important to comment on the blog instead of the Oregon loss but that just wouldn't piss enough Husker Fans off now would it? That's just my opinion and I wasn't paid to say it. Also "Have a Merry Christmas"

celticpride said...

yeah I mean it's everyday that an in-state team breaks a conference record that not even Kansas or Texas has accomplished in the Big XII. Don't talk about that or anything, instead talk about how an opponent fared with their 2 star players shooting like crap, losing to a team that took soon to be in the top 6 or 7 Michigan State, down to the wire in East Lansing.

Unknown said...

This is a pretty technical argument, but Creighton's defense will probably give up more points to similar opponents because Creighton's offense and full court press increase the number of possessions that the opposition has.

Nebraska's offense is a more deliberate, grind it out style that uses more of the shot clock. As a result, the opponent will have fewer offensive possessions per game.

Just like a ball control, running attack in football limits the opponents scoring options, Creighton's uptempo offensive leads to additional possessions for opponents.

Neither style is necessarily better than the other; they are just different.

beav said...

That's a pretty lame excuse for giving up 73 points to Houston Baptist. So what you are saying is that Creighton's defensive strategy is to allow more possessions for the opposing team and to allow more points.

Heres Doc defensive strategy........STOP THE OPPOSING TEAM FROM SCORING ANY POINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MattSantaMaria said...

What is MP arguing here? I am a huge Creighton fan, somewhat Neutral on Nebraska and see no basis behind his blasting of the idea that Nebraska might end up with a better resume. Creighton fans who take it as a personal attack are completely offbase. The Big 12 has high expectations and the MVC has extremely low ones (especially if SIU keeps losing on the road).

I'm not a believer that you can compare teams based on single head to head matchups, especially when the home team wins, but I still say Creighton is a better basketball team. I also say that Nebraska might end up with a better resume, which isn't a slap in the face to Bluejay fans in the slightest. Not sure how MP can't see that...

Matt Perrault said...

it's not a slap. you are going to be wrong that's all.

MattSantaMaria said...

Have you seen the Missouri Valley conference? There isn't one marquee win on that in-conference schedule outside of perhaps @Drake. It's a very weak schedule that Creighton will have to dominate to overcome, which I think they will.

The only way Creighton gets a win rivaling the opportunities Nebraska has would be going to Butler or to St. Marys (whom beat Oregon at home) and winning on the road in the BB game. Again, none of this has anything to do with the actual teams in question.

magic said...

Matt: Why do you even comment like that? "it's not a slap. you are going to be wrong that's all".
You really could care less and just like to make comments to stir the pot and piss off husker fans is all.

beav said...

Matt, on the air you said "it's too early to tell" who has an easier road to the tournament. Now you are calling someone wrong when the say Nebraska might end up with a better resume. You can't have it both ways.

So what's the truth? Is it
a)Too early to tell
b)Obvious that Jays will have a better resume.

Matt Perrault said...

1. I believe it's too early to WRITE about resumes as fact.

2. I believe that the Jays will have the better resume ie RPI, conference standing and chance to get into the tourney.

It's not fact just opinion. At least I'm honest about mine.

sublime_fan27 said...

It could be that way. Maybe Creighton does have a better shot at the Tourney. Maybe Nebraska does. Nebraska has to finish in the top 6 to have a shot. That's going to be tough in a conference like the Big 12. Creighton has a much easier row to hoe, but the MVC may be a 1 big league this year if the champion takes conference tourney. My guess, the MVC will get 2.

It really is too early to tell. It makes for interesting conversation, but that's about all right now.

beav said...

But here's a good question. Now that the non-conference games are coming to a close, is it possible that the big 12 could be a 7 bid league. The big 12 currently rpi #1 and also has #1 SOS. Right now I think most people would have to agree that the big 12 should at least get 6 teams in the big dance, but given the RPI ratings I see no reason why the big 12 can't get 7.

Heres my prediction......the following big 12 schools with make the dance

1) Kansas
2) Texas A&M
3) Texas
4) Baylor
5) Texas Tech
6) Nebraska
7) Kansas State

The valley, on the other hand, will get 1 or 2 bids. (Creighton and/or Drake)

MattSantaMaria said...

It's not fact just opinion. At least I'm honest about mine.

Strange, considering MP seems to be about the only one not giving the impression that his opinions are anything but.

mpluvcreighton said...

Saying Creighton will have the easier road to the dance and then saying that they will have a better resume is a little bit of a contradiction.....it would seem like the team with the tougher road would end up with the better resume..?

Bill Swerski said...

Are you serious with this comment that the tougher road makes for a better resume? A quick example here: do you think that Nebraska's resume was better than Creighton's resume in '02-'03 (or any of the past ten seasons, for that matter) when Nebraska finished 11-17, and Creighton finished 29-5? Nebraska clearly had the tougher road that season since it played eight ranked teams that season, and as you all so often turn to as a crutch, they played in the Big 12.

Bottom line: you have to win games to get a better resume. A tougher schedule doesn't mean anything if you lose the games -- just ask your football team.

beav said...

Why don't you ask your football team Bill?.......Oh wait, your school doesn't have football!!!!!!! Maybe you shouldn't refer to football when your school doesn't have football.

Bill Swerski said...

Classic response from the Sker faithful. Your schtick is just tired. Explain to me how I have to have attended a school with a certain sport in order to be a fan of that sport (although I did attend UNL). Next you'll tell me that a UNO alum cannot be as big of a fan of football as you because their school only has Division II. Give it up man - it's old.
