NIT Bubble

I just want this on record....at 19 wins - Nebraska is now on the bubble for the NIT. I'm not saying the won't, for sure, get in. But they will lose to KU and be 19-12, 8-10 in the Big 12 on Selection Sunday. Their RPI will be around 100 as well. I know people around here are expecting an NIT bid but the win over Missouri just put them on the bubble....in the conversation. But I don't see it yet...not with the number of NCAA bids going to lower major teams....the bump down affect will knock Nebraska out of the NIT unless they beat KU.

Should be an interesting Selection Sunday

I think UNL will get into the NIT. Maybe not as a very high seed, but their record warrants a look. As long as we don't have to endure another boring UNL-CU game, I wish both teams luck in the postseason.

Why is it that no Creighton fans want a rematch of Nebraska and Creighton? They only play once a year and it is early in the year when the teams are not playing at their best. If it was a rematch for a third or fourth time I would understand, but I would like to see them play again. I can understand seeing another team come into the qwest but there no guarntee that that team will be interesting. Besides Creighton is so much better than Nebraska(rpi)according to all CU fans so they should want to play Nebraska so they can move on to the next round easily.

First of all...we were probably in the NIT before the Mizzou game barring a lot of "trickle downs". The win today locks us. The Kansas outcome really doesn't make much of a difference outside of potential seeding.

Second of all, Creighton fans were crying earlier this season because we didn't want to play them 2 times a year. Now they don't want any part of us.

Third of all, I am praying to God for the Nebraska-Creighton NIT matchup. If, God willing, we get that opportunity, we will end their season. That would be a pretty special moment for my friends and I as we would sit down at the Crescent Moon decked out in Husker gear just glowing with delight.

Finally, I really don't want to play Kansas. I just hope we can play them close this time.

The latest NIT and CBI projections based on games through 3/13 have Creighton as a #2 seed playing Nevada in the first round and Nebraska as a #7 seed playing UMass in the first round.

Right now, the Huskers and Jays are both paired in the same region, so a second-round matchup would happen if both would win opening games.

Matt Perrault said...

Now that would be funny :). UMass vs. Nebraska would be VERY FUN for me...

Here's why nobody wants to see a rematch - cause we've already seen at the Qwest Center this year. The 2x a year would be a home and home. I want somebody NEW to come to the Qwest Center...and hell, Nevada would be a rematch of last year's NCAA tournament game! That's why the NIT could be fun.

If any Nebraska fans needs advice on where to stay in Amherst let me know :). But I think a lot will change over the next 2 days.

Nebraska as a 7 seed is a BUBBLE team.

Creighton beats 17-15, 103 RPI Bradley and these are the headlines you dish out:

"What a Win...."

"74-70 W HUGE WIN!"

Nebraska wins and we get:

"NIT Bubble"

Sports talk without the spin?

Matt, this is simply wishful thinking on your part. Nebraska will be in the NIT even with a loss to KU. Nebraska has 6 quality wins/ 3 bad losses according to realtimerpi, Creighton on the other hand has 4 quality wins/3 bad losses. Tell me what your excuse will be when they make it. They are not going to snub Nebraska, who has been very competitive even in losses with the exception of Kansas. I can't wait for a rematch of Nebraska/Creighton, b/c like even most Creighton fans, I see the writing on the wall on who would win that game, and no it's not going to the Gonzaga wannabes of the MVC.

There is talk now since Baylor lost to Colorado this could hurt our chances (NU) at getting a NIT bid.

Anyone know if snow is in the forcast for hell tonight?

I know wishful thinking but wouldn't it be the win of all wins against KU?

Either way I love the direction the program has been heading in the last 2 years.

To add to what you posted, I love how Matt had many updates during the Creighton MVC tourney games, but the blog went silent for a few days and not a word mentioned following their loss to Drake.

Couldn't even post a final entry at the conclusion of the game.

Lame.

Easy Brian......it's hard to type and weep at the same time.

The reason there wasn't a recap was the fact that I wasn't able to use the internet at the arena following the game. There wasn't much to recap either except what could have beens and I talked about it a ton on the post game show...the blog is for enhancement of the show, not full content.

However, Nebraska can't get around the RPI, where they finished in their league, losing record in their league, losing to the Jays head to head, a sad non-conference SOS..etc....

Matthew, you are an idiot.

If someone is bumped out of the NCAAs, they are replaced by someone currently in the NIT. That's a "bump down" effect of zero. Now there could be bid-stealers, like if Kent State or Memphis lose but that would at most be two.

Also, if Baylor gets into the NCAA, NU should be the first or second team taken from the Big 12 (OSU could go first), I don't see only one Big 12 team in the NIT.

SpinSports590 said...

You are honestly fool if you think NU is not in the NIT!

Thanks for reading this.
First off Creighton has been wanting to play UNL twice a year but your coaches have not wanted it.Your last coach even wanted to stop playing Creighton once a year.
I want play new teams not teams we have already played. The goal of post season shouldn't be rematches. I want someone new.
If Crighton and UNL both make it to the NIT I wish both teams well. Go Jays.

If I'm a fool - then you know what the NCAA bracket looks like and we should be paying attention you - not Joe Lunardi. You can't say where the Huskers are because they are a NIT bubble team...that's just a fact. You think they are a lock but the facts aren't there....look at the projections...all have them as a bubble team including NITology and that was after the win of MU. They played well yesterday but an L is an L and they are not 19-12 like I said they would be...8-10 in the Big 12...if only 5 teams make the Dance from the Big 12 - NU is out.

What are you talking about that Nitology says they are a bubble team? It says they are NIT qualified if they want to play there, they will continue to be placed in that tournament. Where does it say they are a bubble team, I'm still trying to figure that one out? We might start calling you Matt Lunardi, b/c you apparently have such a grip on this NIT bracket. You're also the guy that said how huge of a win Creighton over a crappy Bradley team was, I don't think you have a clue about college basketball. With posts/commentary like this nobody is going to give you any credibility. How about you just admit, you don't want NU to make the NIT, b/c you don't want a rematch of Creighton/Nebraska, b/c a Creighton defeat would be a crushing blow to their great program.

matt, according to this site, NU isn't on any NIT bubble, not even close. suppose you can't take it seriously though since it doesn't fit your agenda.

And NITolgy has them as a 6seed and a "bubble" team. No need to keep bickering...we'll all find out at 6 pm tonight.

Matt Perrault said...

and that site is wrong because they have Temple in the NIT....they are in the NCAA's...

Hello. This post is likeable, and your blog is very interesting, congratulations :-). I will add in my blogroll =). If possible gives a last there on my blog, it is about the Impressora e Multifuncional, I hope you enjoy. The address is http://impressora-multifuncional.blogspot.com. A hug.

celticpride said...

it wasn't "wrong", it just wasn't updated after Temple won yesterday. And Nebraska just moved up in the NITology, so I don't quite get how moving up in seeding equtes to being on the bubble. NU will be in the NIT.

Bubble = 3 seed?

SpinSports590 said...

You hit the nail on the head on this one with us being a bubble team. Somehow Nebraska jumps from a bubble team that probably doesn't get in, to a 3 seed. Creighton must of been sitting squarely next to us since they are 3 seed as well. I can't wait to see your next prediction, most likely will be somewhere along the lines of Drake being a dark horse Final Four team.
