Jays Whoop Dayton 77-59
Just what the doctor ordered tonight Creighton. A team that was undefeated and nearly ranked came into the Qwest Center tonight and got their ass handed to them by a fired up Bluejay squad that did all the little things. Sure, you can look at Booker Woodfox's 4 for 5 from behind the arc in the first half or Kaleb Korver's 4 for 5 from 3 for the game but with all the shooting (Jays again hit 13 3's), it was the work on the glass that was the difference. The Jays out boarded UD by 11 and capitalized on their 2nd chance opportunities. It was all hustle. All heart. Just wanting more than the other guy basketball.
It was never closer than 12 points after halftime but it didn't feel like that big of a lead. Dayton just pressured the Jays just enough to make them push hard throughout the 2nd half. It was the first 40 minute game for CU on the year and a win over the best team they have played so far. UD defense was SIU-like but the Jays handled it well.
Yes, they did have 17 turnovers and Dana Altman will be upset about that but in terms of toughness and energy - tonight was the best game by far for this young team.
The line was Jays -6. It ended up being 18. Really surprising but really good to see. The team is gelling, buying in and turning a corner. You might be able to look back on this win as the start of something really fun for 2008-09 Bluejays.

Or you may look back on this and say, "Dayton wasn't any good." It may end up being like NU's win last year against Oregon. It looked good at the time, but in the end, it was just another win. Let's not get too excited about a win over Dayton. It's way too early to start qulifying wins.

Oregon only good prior to NU was going to K St and beat them in Overtime...they were ranked at the time #25. Marquette was #12 and now is #24...they won that game in Chicago.
We'll see but I think Marquette is pretty good.
Wow, beat up on another BCS team. Impressive!!! It's funny how NU's schedule is so weak and you hate them so much yet you talked to the coach of one of the worst teams left on their schedule at Oregon St. Oh wait, that was a 10 minute conversation about Barack Obama and not bball. Pretty disrespectful to that coach. I thought this was a sports talk radio show but guess I was wrong. It's more about what concerts you go to and hoping Dana Altman was single.
Hold on! So let me get this straight. Perrault did an interview with the head coach of Oregon State so he could talk about his brother-in-law B. Obama? Oh, my God that is pathetic!
Obama has the liberals brainwashed even more than Bush had the ultra-conservatives. Sometimes, this country amazes me, in all of the wrong ways. What are these people going to do when Obama fails?
Dayton had 2 of their best players out, but they are a decent team. I think Creighton can be proud that they beat them. I don't think they would be able to beat them again in a few weeks, but for all intensive purposes...pretty good win.
It's just too bad that Creighton couldn't knock of a BCS school when they could of.
2 of their best players? Little played and the other guy is the 3rd string PG. Talk about brainwashed...Wright is a NBA type guy and he was shut down.
And yes, I talked to Craig Robinson because he's Barack's brother-in-law...cool story.
A good win for Creighton; hit the shots the needed to to keep Dayton from ever really getting back into the game.
Turnovers continue to be a problem for the Jays; particularly against teams that play hard nosed defense. "Hackers" as Matt and the Jays community have dubbed them. I found it comical how, even while up by points in the upper teens, the Jays fans continued to complain about Dayton's tough defense, even going so far as to boo at one of their players during the entire last 10 minutes of the game as a result of an aggressive play that he made in which no foul was called. Hilarity!!
CU's softness, which Nebraska exposed, will be their demise this year.
I can't believe the qwest didn't sell out last night against an undefeated team. Strange considering it was perfect sweater vest weather. I guess there must have been somewhere else in town to "be seen" on a wednesday last night.
I snapped a picture of the entire midcourt section of the Qwest last night, five minutes into the game, and it was considerably thin. Same old story for the Jays "fans": show up late, enjoy a mixed drink garnished with a piece of fruit, shoot the bull with the people in the row behind you, and then head down to Barrett's or "The Mat" as it's called now with about 8 minutes to go.
Matt, I can send you said picture if you promise to post it the next time you bring to light Nebraska's attendance and allegiance to our team at the Devany.
I wonder if the fans were there to support the Jays or just to see Dayton lose?
Jays fan were late because of traffic issues...we talked about this for 3 days...it was the first trip for CU fans - they showed up...just late due to traffic...so I wouldn't need to see a picture - i was there.

Yes NU beat CU this year. They were the better team this year, though I would like to see them play two times a year. However both teams need to forget about that game and move on. I think those of us who are fans along with the teams need to move on. NE. should be more concerned about the big 12 and CU should worry more about the MVC. Last night was a great won for the BlueJays!
for the 19th most important game of the year, NU fans can't seem to drop it. Keep thumping your chest for the 19th most important game of the year. You know i really get a big kick out of all you guys ripping on matt. And it is not because i hate him or anything. I actually enjoy his show and think he does a pretty good job. I just get a kick out of your guy's arguments. Most of them lack any kind of common sense and actual insight. you guys should really be thanking matt. No really you should. his blog gives middle aged losers with nothing better to do, like yourself, a place to go to bitch. You know if you guys hate him so much, then why do you listen ? I just never understood that. You guys must not have anything better to do while you are sitting in you mom's basement jerking it to the NU 1994 Media Guide. Larry last time i heard scoreboard was like in 5th grade. but because it came from you it is just so original and fresh............ Get a life you losers
everyone remember back when perrault was bashing husker fans on a message board for complaining about the terrible traffic coming out of the bob and he looked down on that as something like "see Husker fans when you play a big game, there is traffic." Yet he's totally oblivious to the fact that the Bob has to be the worst parking situation in America.
And look at him throw out traffic as the excuse for the late-arriving fans. Priceless. I've been to the Qwest many times. For Cu-Nu games, you can get out of that arena and be on the interstate in 10 minutes. For Nu vs. Arkansas Pine-Bluff, you can get out of the game and be out of heavy traffic in 20 minutes.
Traffic to the Qwest, what a pathetic excuse. I got to concert at the Qwest all the time that are sold out, 17000 people and it never takes me more than 10 minutes to get from 77 to the Qwest. Apparently the fans didn't know what time the game started if they were getting there late. Also if half the fans knew there's more than one way to get to the game they wouldn't get stuck in traffic.
Also let's hope that Obama is at least half the President as his brother-in-law is a basketball coach at Oregon St. If he's as bad a president, we're screwed.
Also my congrats to Creighton for beating another Non-BCS, Non-Ranked school. It was a good win for them.
Dude. The traffic talk is hilarious. Read this.......... http://mattperrault.blogspot.com/2008/11/breathegotta-just-breathe.html
I meant Hwy 75 in my post, it was a typo.

Please provide an example. It's interesting how you just said your peace and then failed to support your claim with any "actual insight" as to where you derived this opinion from.
One more thing, you haven't even begun to hear about the CU/NU game from this year. Matt brought this on himself via the past year of using his soapbox to profess his denial that CU was better than NU last year despite the laundry list of facts that say otherwise.
Oh and I almost forgot, you came at Larry for using the dated term "scoreboard", but then concluded your post with "get a life???" You're too much man!!!
My god are you guys stupid sometimes. The traffic issue with the Qwest Center IS BRAND NEW! Unless you were at the game on Tuesday, YOU HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED the new issues with parking and traffic flow. That's why Roger Dixon was on the show on Tuesday...cause it was all new! The excuse was for the first time...unless they actually learn how to build something new in Lincoln, your arguement doesn't make any sense.
Nice try guys.
Matt,
I was at that game last night as I had to take a client out. People rolled in late (nothing new), people seemed more into "socializing" than the actual game (nothing new), people stayed out by the concessions after halftime (nothing new), people starting filing out with 6 minutes to go (nothing new), and you could still hear a pin drop. This really isn't anything out of the ordinary for Creighton fans at the Qwest. I'm not seeing the big deal here. There was no traffic that held me up coming to the game...and we ended up arriving way later than we had planned. We also had no problems getting out of the Qwest.
Creighton's "fairweathered fanship" will always come into question...even by their own kind. Just look at the Tooljay message board, there is an 7-page thread about how terrible they are! Bwahaha, it's comical!
"Jays fan were late because of traffic issues...we talked about this for 3 days..."
I went to the first exhibition game, and there were traffic issues there. So how many home games have they had, and the fans STILL don't know about the traffic issues?
In my last post I meant to write win not won. Sorry about the bad english.

Yep, it's a final: The mighty Raiders of Wright State just improved to a whopping 2-6 with tonight's win at Arkansas-Little Rock.
I'm going to head over the A-LR's message board now and see if "they played their worst game of the year" which I'm told exonerates teams from owning up to a loss.
It's ok Mr. Trofholz, the jays have a more than quality win over a top 15 major conference team in Dayton to make up for it.
I still can't believe CU fans are complaining about traffic. It takes 3 times as long to navigate the traffic at the Devaney.
no genius...i gave out info for 3 days on yhe new traffic issues
Kudos to Matt and his time management skills. One would think creating excuses all day for the Creighton team and fans would take up all of his time in a day but somehow he manages to fit in a radio show. Great job Matt!
