Call Your Congressman!

We are asking the audience of Big Sports 590 to contact your congressman in order to get them to wave the taxes on the Von Maur Victims Fund. Right now, unless the families and those affected can prove need, the money will be taxed by the IRS. Source: www.omaha.com

Call in Nebraska and tell them to give the fund the same treatment as the Virginia Tech Fund:

Ben Nelson: Omaha office (402) 391-3411

Chuck Hagel: Omaha office (402) 758-8981

Good work.

Don't listen to the show, but it's always nice to put the radio medium to good use. Hopefully the voices can be heard, because that sure sounds awfully unreasonable.

I have to disagree here. It's a great story and all with people getting money but come on, that's what being responsible and having life insurance is for. Don't make me out to be an a-hole Republican, just make me out to be someone who cares enough about me family to protect them if something horrible like this happens.

MattSantaMaria said...

To be honest, I don't even know the entire story. Or any of it.

I've just learned that in a society where a hell of a lot of people are too focused on themselves to try and help others, Matt's obvious attempt to reach out is appreciated, right or wrong.

Steve said...

I get that but what about the family that lost their Dad in a car accident last night? What about the family that lost their Mom to cancer? Why not give them money? All I'm saying is if people learn to take care of themselves we wouldn't have as many problems.

Matt is doing something good here. Quite suprising, actually.

It's not like he's asking everybody to dig into their pockets to help these people. All he is asking is for the government to keep their dirty little hands off of it. Perhaps it's just the Conservative-Libratarian in me, but the greedy big government has its hands in places they don't need to be.

Steve is right. Now, I realize that it doesn't matter because, since when is it bad to do something good for someone especially when they just had a traumatic life changing experience? Its not. But, like everything that Matt believes in, its bandwagon based. I don't believe for a SECOND that Matt's using this for anything other than selfish reasons. Comon dude, the folks are going to get money they wouldn't have received anyway, so who cares if they have to pay some taxes on it? A LOT of people in this world have had a life changing tragedy happen to them including me. So, wheres my money? Oh thats right it wasn't front page, top story news so who cares....

it's all about you Patrick isn't it? That post makes me feel very sorry for you.

Good Lord, how many of you are holed up in a shack in Wyoming? You can't get much more jaded and paranoid than this. People actually have compassion for one another. There are actually tax provisions in place for specific reasons. Unfortunately, those two realities occasionally overlap.

So you didn't receive this kind of treatment when you experienced a hardship at one point in your life; that doesn't mean others shouldn't get anything. Get over yourselves.

Well said Matt and Bill. You guys have hit the nail on the head. Anyone that feels that these folks were not deserving...well...they are just plain cold.

People are realizing just what kind of "person" you are Matt. Your little backhanded comments at Nebraska teams at any chance you get don't cruise by unnoticed by us Matt. You think you're slick, you're not. And having brown nosers who work with you post on your little "blog" doesn't count.

Matt Perrault said...

I have never met a single person who has posted on my blog.

Bill Swerski said...

Yeah, Matt, you're not fooling any of us! You may think that no one notices your shots at NU because you're usually so subtle about it - little do you know that those quick-witted Husker fans catch everything.

Matt, you've shown us all that you are the type of person that utilizes his public presence to raise money for a good cause, and doesn't hide his opinion for anyone - how do you sleep at night? These are just terrible character traits. This might be brown-nosing, but to quote Brian McNamee, "it is what it is."

I'll say it again (though this is mostly directed at patrick): Get over yourselves.

Unknown said...

Well Bill-O, thanks for proving what I wrote. I call it like I see it. No need to kiss anyones ass here. You might want to get over yourself. Oh well, another day, another bandwagon to jump on eh?

Matt you just got Purple Aced. Wow.

Funny that a Nebraska fan is running his mouth, considering the Huskers couldn't hold serve at home vs. a Missouri team playing without their 14 PPG senior. That Tiger team with all those big road wins, you know, like that squeaker @Colorado. Wait. That was their only Big 12 road win? Didn't they play at Ames, home of the 0-3 vs. the valley Cyclones? Oh, that's right, they couldn't even win there. The 6th best team in the Missouri Valley thinks thats weak. Thirteen points (61-48) weak.

Who is the Nebraska Fan? and what does all this have to do with calling my Congressman?

Steve said...

It drives me crazy some of the people that post here. If you don't like Matt take your post to another blog. It gets old.

johnny drama said...

I am not a Nebraska fan but find it hilarious that Creighton lost to Evansville especially since they are playing so well. Maybe the fans up there went crazy and all wore purple since that effects games. Mattsantmaira any Nebraska loss is not even close in comparison to losing to the Purple Aces. Especially when their best player and point guard is out due to injury.P'aced. Sorry steve for posting in this forum but Matt doesn't post new threads when the Jays Lose, and sorry for ruining a blog that is full of great conversation and on the cutting edge of blogging, Allegedly.

Bill Swerski said...

And now we have a Jim Rome wannabe. Do you think that since Matt doesn't post a blog after a Jays loss, that this may not be the forum to talk about it? If you relish a Jays loss so much, don't you have real friends that you could talk to about it?

Before you go off on the bad loss against Evansville (I wholeheartedly agree that it is a terrible loss and seals CU's fate save for an automatic berth), you might want to go back and look at NU's loss to Western Kentucky.

Andy said...

You mean the WKU that is 18-5 with an RPI of 55? That's a little bit different.

And besides, Nebraska sucks and now everyone realizes Creighton does to.

sublime_fan27 said...

Ummm Bill,

That Western Kentucky team is 20-5 and 12-1 in the Sun Belt conference. They are a very good team who will be playing in the NCAA Tourney come March. They easily would be 1st or 2nd in the MVC right now. Easily.

Like a typical Creighton fan, your knowledge of college basketball is minimal to say the least.

Andrew said...

Bill,

RPI of Western Kentucky: 59
RPI of Evansville: 248

Worst comment ever.

Do your research.

Bill Brasky said...

Bill just got P'Owned.

Just like the Jays got P'Aced.

I can't wait to hear Matty's excuses this time. Let me guess...the refs sucked or the lack of atmosphere in the arena?

johnny drama said...

Wow. Bill S. your comparison of Evansville to Western Kentucky was classic and justs sums up Jays fans perfectly. They do not understand actual college basketball and think that the MVC is the "upper echelon" of the NCAA. The ace fans at Roberts Stadium must have brought their "cheering shoes", like MP would say. P'Aced

Bill Swerski said...

First, let me say that I'll admit that I didn't do any research on WKU - didn't really care to. However, the NU basketball fan knowledge is really shining through on this one. Show me a mid-major (or Big-6 conference for that matter) team with an RPI in the high-50s that has ever made the tourney as an at-large (I'll give you a hint: it has never happened). RPI in the high-50s hardly implies that they "will be playing in the NCAA tournament." Creighton has an RPI of 64 (even after the loss to Evansville) and every single CU fan acknowledges the fact that CU must win the MVC tourney to get in. I'm not going to hold this against you Husker fans though, I know you don't have much experience reviewing NCAA resumes.

And since when are you impressed by a 12-1 record in the Sun Belt? CU does well in the Valley and you write it off to being an easy conference, but then you turn around and point to a much easier conference like the Sun Belt (RPI: 15; MVC RPI: 8) and say that the second-place team in the conference is impressive? Give me a break. Losing to WKU may not be as bad as losing to Evansville, but it sure as hell wouldn't go down in the "good loss" column if you guys had a tourney resume.

johnny drama said...

Settle Bill. No one said that they were impressed with Western Kentucky's 12-1 sunbelt record they simply stated that record to explain to you that they were better than The Purple Aces and shoot down your horrible comparison. Everyone knows that CU must win the MVC to get to the tourney and knre that before the loss to Evansville. Finally no one ever said that WKU was going to look good on a resume the only reason anyone is talking about WKU is because you compared the two losses.

Andy said...

First, let me say that I'll admit that I didn't do any research on WKU - didn't really care to.

And we're ignorant?

Show me a mid-major (or Big-6 conference for that matter) team with an RPI in the high-50s that has ever made the tourney as an at-large (I'll give you a hint: it has never happened).

2007: 65 Stanford
2006: 58 Seton Hall
2005: 65 NC State
2004: 70 Air Force (mid-major)

Those are the at-large teams with the lowest RPIs to make the tournament over the last four years...what was the hint again?

Maybe you should learn something before talking out of your ass.

Andy said...

One more thing...

I'm not going to hold this against you Husker fans though, I know you don't have much experience reviewing NCAA resumes.

So your college basketball intelligence is based on how good the team you cheer for is? Man, I'm going to start cheering for Duke because I'll be an effing genius!

Your lucky, Bill, that I don't base my opinion of CU's fan base off of your ineptness.

sublime_fan27 said...

Bill,

It's funny. You got served badly and now you are trying to act like we are the dumbasses. Sad.

You are like every Creighton fan I know. Talks a big game down at the Crescent Moon, but in the end you are ignorant as a parent who sends their kid over to Michael Jackson's house for a birthday party.

I woke up this morning and forgot more about college basketball than you have ever learned.
